DrachenbootrennenThe concept of team work is very important to JCI Leipzig. We therefore enjoy taking part in sport events in the region whenever we have the opportunity. This also includes the annual marathon for businesses in Leipzig (Leipziger Firmenlauf), as well as the dragon boat race (Drachenbootrennen) in Leipzig and Halle, and the Central German JCI Cup, which we organise.

Personal and professional further education is a top priority for JCI Leipzig. For this reason, we regularly offer our members a number of training options relating to the different sectors. This includes seminars run by the umbrella organisation JCI, for example on presentation techniques. However, this also extends to debate courses and leadership seminars and even team building events. In general, these training courses are much cheaper or even free for JCI Leipzig members.

RunningDinner3 courses, 3 locations, 3 cooks and a whole lot of fun. Every year in the autumn since 2012, we have organised a Running Dinner. We cook a set menu and the individual courses are then taken to the different locations. Some of the participants’ contributions are then donated to a good cause, for example in 2012, the money was put towards the JCI project Nothing but Nets, working to fight against malaria in Africa.

Multi-twinning_2014_LyonJCI Leipzig maintains a large number of twinning partnerships. Leipzig has – along with Frankfurt, Lyon, Budapest, Birmingham and Turku – multi-twinning status. Every year one of the six partner towns hosts a meeting for all partners to allow for mutual exchange and to get more familiarly acquainted with the other partner towns.

WJ-CupSince 2005, the working group for entrepreneurship has been organising the Central German JCI Cup, which takes place every year. Businesses from the region and members are invited to play football for a good cause. The event takes place at Soccerworld at the Leipzig Old Trade Fair (Alte Messe Leipzig), where on this Saturday in April, up to 25 teams play indoor football against one another. Alongside providing an opportunity to have fun and to do some networking, this event supports a local project. Over the last few years, the Wege e.V. and the Freie Kindergarten Leipzig have benefited from the donations collected at the charity tournament.

weko2014-leipzig_420pxThe idea to host the World Congress of the umbrella association JCI in Leipzig had already been conceived by JCI Leipzig in 2000.

In November 2012, the decision to hold the World Congress 2014 in Germany was announced during the JCI World Congress in Taipeh. Leipzig will therefore be the venue of this major German event. The JCI Leipzig und members from across Germany are voluntarily carrying out preparations for the World Congress which will take place from 24 to 29 November 2014.

TetradSince 2011, in cooperation with the Tetrad Tree Foundation, JCI Zimbabwe has planted almost 102,000 trees in Zimbabwe. In 2012, we successfully established a project in Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe. This project was so successful that even the city administration actively supported our work. In 2013, we plan to plant a further 500,000 trees. Every contribution, no matter how small, is therefore valuable.

Resource-conscious and innovative: Aware that helping to bring about sustainable and resource-friendly change in a politically and economically unstable country is in our interest, JCI Leipzig have been supporting JCI Zimbabwe since 2013.

FlughafenOur members come from many different sectors and as members of the JCI Leipzig, we receive exclusive insights into businesses in the region on company visits. Thanks to these special privileges, we have already been able to take a look behind the scenes at BMW, Leipzig/Halle Airport, DHL, Vita 34 and Sternburg brewery.

A particularly entertaining charity event is our annual participation in the night-time flea market at Kohlrabizirkus. Our members are called on before hand to ‘have a clean out for a good cause’ and the donated things are then sold to raise money for our partner school, St. Mary’s School, in India.

Since 2012, we have also been able to successfully establish the Book Collection in Leipzig with the support of the Junior Chamber International Frankfurt. On the last day of the international Spring Book Fair, this event sees book donations being collected from the exhibiting publishers in support of Leipzig’s school libraries.
